At our regular meetings we practiced some of our Scouting skills.
Like flag pole raising and first aid. There might have been a little
clowning around too.

Mt Shepard,
On probably the coldest weekend
all winter we camped at Mt Shepard Methodist camp in the Uhwarrie Mountain
Range, with 5 weblos and their families who were doing their troop
overnighter requirement. The wind chill (which never stopped blowing all
weekend) put the temperature down to around zero. We persevered through the
weekend. We stayed in the cabins which was great but did all of our cooking
and eating outside. We did a sevice project for the Camp, took a five mile
hike up to the top of Mt. Shepard and followed a logging road back down,
practiced Scout Skills, and put together a survival kit to carry in our
packs.

At this winter camping event at
Woodfield Camp, besides the regular duties of fire building, cooking, and
cleaning. We practiced compass skills, and took a short hike to the top of
the mountain.

At Order of the Arrow Conclave our theme was
James Bond 0070, Troop 531 had 4 people in attendance. There were around
1800 people there. There were many vendors there showing camping gear,
canoes, kayaks, hiking trips, OA history, and US Armed forces, there were
also stations set up to learn to tie fishing flies, create a pottery object,
build a wooden mallet, learn about edible plants, wilderness survival, and a
dutch oven cooking station serving bear, elk, deer, stews, desserts and you
name it. Our guys had an excellent time.

This was the best
turnout ever for Scout Sunday. Thank you to all that took the time to come
and worship with First U.

At Scouting for food ourselves and our pack
teamed up with troop and pack 532 to collect over 200 bags of food that was
delivered to Randleman Community Services. Thanks to everyone that showed up
and helped at this event.

In April we attended a Hunting & Fishing Expo sponsored by
531 of Randolph District. We learned gun & hunting safety, Fishing
techniques and safety, NC Wildlife, Conservation,
and forestry. This was followed up by a dinner and everyone youth received a
gift bag full of hats and useful outdoor items.
